Dear Mom

Back to A Few Days in Temuco
By Daniel Lins - 2009-06-08

Hey Mom,

I know it’s been a while since I’ve written to you. Sorry about that.

This week has been such a blessing for us. We’ve been staying with Mama Zadie, and we made Empanadas! Check out the movie! She has beds for all of us, so it has been a real treat to sleep on a mattress.

Zadie’s daughter, Lorena, is the national director of missions here. We have hung out with her and her cousin Javiera a lot. She is like an older sister to me, and it’s been a real blessing to be able to talk to her. It’s been the first real chance I’ve had to talk about the deep things on my heart, since we left the US.

On Monday, we spoke to a group of seminary students at the local seminary. It was cool to meet some other people our age who are focused on ministry. We spoke about getting along in relationships, and how like 70% of missionaries leave the field because of problems with their other teammates. We’ve had a lot of experience with that stuff!

I remember you told me about the 3 stages of all relationships, and I wanted to say I appreciated it, and we shared it with the soon-to-be-missionaries.

1) HoneyMoon Stage – Everything is great.

2) The Change Stage – Everyone is ready for a change. People feel like they need to change churches, work situations, plans, or goals. They want a divorce, to break friendships. Also, people are not willing to deal with each other, to accept each other for who they are.

3) The Long Haul: Fulfilling commitments, accepting each other for who they are, not for who we want them to be. True Love and commitment are manifested with personal growth.

I remember that this gave me hope through our rough times, and the students really appreciated it, too.

Love you!

Daniel

Daniel, we had camp staff training this past weekend, and we did the Skua shout a few times—we miss you!
